Sunday Beach Long Run

Sunday Beach Long Run

COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”

It is a beautiful fall Sunday. 62 degrees- cool with blue skies. Today, my goal is to run a 10k. It’s been 21,22 days since I’ve run a “ long distance”. The Every Women’s Marathon is in less than 50 days. With my knee injury, I had to take almost three weeks off from running.

This week I had an appointment with a sport massage therapist and an acupuncture appointment.. I went to two strength training classes at the Y. I’m working my way to putting more miles on my feet. Oh, I forgot to mention I got new shoes. The new Glycerin Max with lots of extra cushion.

Yesterday, Saturday was my first attempt at running. I ran 2.5 miles and walked the rest. Today, I wanted to see how I would do and feel where my body was at.

By 6:55 a.m. I was at Revere Beach. There is something smoothing and even magical of running by the beach. Breathing in the salt air, hearing the sound of the waves and sea gulls. Even looking at the horizon and seeing the sun rise over the ocean.

I did some pre running stretches at the beach. While I was doing it, I was treated to gorgeous reds, blues, yellows, and orange of the sky.

With my new shoes, I took my time as I started to run. Start off slow is what they tell every running. And I did. About a 1 and 1/2 in , I started to walk for a bit. I’m trying to be mindful where the pain is when I run on my right knee. I could feel it along the left side of my knee. I walked for a bit and picked up running.

Oddly, the more the ran, I think my knee got use to it and “ sucked it up.” I was able to run. The pain was more of a “ slight tooth ache kind of feel rather than a pounding aching sensation. I forgot to count the times I stopped and walked for a bit. That did not matter. I was in my zone.

I wasn’t going for time. I was happy to take this first step. Normally when I run a 10k, I’m done in under an hour or somethings 2-5 minutes over. I kept in mind, this was my baseline comeback to see where I a.m.

6.01 miles; 11:52 pace, 1:11:23 time.

Let’s keep it moving.
