Southern Beach Running
COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”
Three weeks to go until Big Sur Marathon. Traveling to attend a sociological conference can’t stop the training. For the next couple of days I’m in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. One the one hand it will be wonderful to see my colleagues and present my paper. On the other hand, South Carolina is doing a great job with perpetuating inequalities in their policies, legislation, and treatment of its people. Also, it’s warm and I’m not in Boston.
This morning, I planned on running a 10k but I was .80 miles short. I ran along the beach is lovely 48 degree weather and saw the sunrise. I was running in unfamiliar place and space. I ran with caution and made sure to say in the light while running. At 6 a.m. it was dark and quiet out. The terrain, which was flat was also a bit slippery. As the sun was about to rise, I did see more people along the boardwalk to see the sun. To my surprise and happiness, I saw two people running this morning( one male, one female). They did the universal acknowledgment.
The people that I did see a lot of, as I was ending my run were the golfers. OMG, there were so many of them waiting for their buses or vans to take them to the golf course. Besides the service workers I saw going to work, this was a very white space this morning.
I need to make sure to run 4 or 5 miles tomorrow, to get ready for the long run on Saturday.
