Fast, Faster, Fastest: Track Tuesday

Fast, Faster, Fastest: Track Tuesday

COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”

Another June Track Tuesday. This morning we had a plot twist. The entrance to the track was locked. Chains , locks, and all. No one was getting in. It was 6a.m. and we start at 6:30a.m. I don’t know what the plan B would have been if we didn’t get in. Run up and down Mass Ave? At least it wasn’t winter. There were a couple of times last winter when we were locked out of the Reggie. At least it is good weather.

Eventually, around 6:08a.m., we found folks with keys to open the gate. By that time. Russell, the Nike rep had already set up his team and shoe demos outside of the gate. Once inside , we set up or re-establish ourselves quickly.

This is the year of the Olympics. I appreciate the knowledge Coach Dan has about Olympic track athletics. Since this is also “ Nikes’ year of introducing it’s VOLT running shoe; we are working on being faster.

This session workout was inspired by a Jamaican woman who owns 8 Olympic Medals and 16 World Championships.

The workout today:

4 x 400m @ alternating 10k/5kpace with 45 sec recover

4x300m @ alternating 5k pace/mile pace 1:00 rec

4 x200m @ alternating mile pace/ best pace 1:00 rec

4 x100m @ best pace.

Team Red, we had some new folks join us today. Many of the BGR Boston members had team red bracelets. I was pacing my crew. I was excited and I really wanted to make sure I was on point with my pacing.

To my surprise I was. The ladies today were awesome. They stayed with me. Listen to my suggestions, and they could actually feel the pace differences. We were also a fun group.

It may have been a struggle to get there, but once there, it’s always good. A good time, a good challenge, a good sense of my abilities.
