SUPER SUNDAY
COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”
Today is Super Bowl Sunday and Super Sunday 5k/5miler. Normally this event is held in Cambridge by Kendall Square. This year, the event moved to Waltham. Out in the burbs. There are two reasons for this. One, there is so much construction going on in Cambridge, that our normal race route was disruptive. And I think that made getting a permit this year difficult. And, several weeks ago a Waltham police office and an Eversource worker were both killed. This race , was a memorial and tribute to the officer. I heard that the race director is friends or has some connection to the officer that died.
Anywho, we are here. Waltham is hilly. When I learned of the switch, I was going to change to a 5k. I know the 5 miler route in Cambridge. Then I said, screw it, just keep what you have.
And I did. IT wad freaking cold out, number one. Because I got there early, I parked in the Volunteer lot. No parking pass, walking or taking a shuttle bus to the race start. Score! :) .
A number of my BGR sole sistas showed up for this race. And we saw our Pioneer running crew folks as well. Being in Waltham was a different vibe than Cambridge.
Even though, the race was to support both the police officer and Eversource worker, it was all about the police. There was hardly or no representation from the young man from Cambridge that was killed. I saw his picture on a flyer. But is was all about the men in Blue.
This was telling. 5 of the ladies on the BGR Boston Selma to Montgomery team were there. This was a good practice on working on hills and running in the streets. I will say this. Mile 4 was disrespectful. Straight Up hill. But we got it done.
