Pre run- Boston 10k for Women- 11 miler 2024
COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”
Today is the day of the Boston 10k for women. This is my tester race. Since my knee injury this race is milestone in my recovery/healing process. I wanted to know where my knee and body are with running. Getting ready for this race, I’ve strength train, been to acupuncture, sport massage, riding the bike, and walking a bit. Really the end goal is Every Woman’s Marathon in Savannah. The week of this race, I had a sport massage on Thursday and rested on Friday. Saturday, I ran 5 miles before the race. I ran with new knee compression sleeves on- first time. That went ok. I had an hour before the 10k. I walked around and kept my legs moving. I ran the 10k. I had to stop and walk four times, which is fine.
I finished 11 miles, which is the longest mileage running since my knee situation. Unfortunately, I was doing the wobbling, can’t fully walk afterwards thing when I went to the store. The race itself was nice. It did get hot a bit. What I really loved was the pre running shenanigans. I saw my Heartbreaker peeps, Black Girls Run- of course peeps, Trailblazhers folks, East boston runners, REI folks, friends of friends . It was a morning of catching up and seeing runners who I haven’t seen in a hot minute . I could have just done the social thing all morning.
Then we had all the activities at the Black Girls Run tent. For our team over 30 ladies participated, which was cool.
First run - 4.87 miles; 1:00:20. Yes, I was taking pictures and I walked a bit. My pace: 12:24
Second run- 6.27- 1:12:02 - running and walking. My pace-11:29
This race was also a baseline to see where I was at. To be honest. I normally run around 10:30 to 10:50 pace. I reminded myself that I’m not at my normal healthy running pace. This is good. tendons and muscles take forever to heal. I was on my feet for two hours and I was able to keep moving. Progress not Perfection is the theme and mantra.
