Boston 10k for Women
COVID-19, “The Rona Era”
So excited for today. BGR is not only one of the charity teams but we also have a team on Boston Commons and my Co-ambassador and I are also ambassadors for the Boston 10k for Women race. This year the race is on Saturday instead of Monday, which is Indigenous People’s Day.
I was up at 4 a.m. to meet K by 4:45a.m. at the Commons so we can put up the tent. Man, it was cold and dark, dark and cold out. I’m glad I had on layers, tights, gloves, and hat.
Since it was Saturday, I realized we couldn’t park free around the Commons. K, told me about Park Wiz and we found parking for $15 from 5a.m.- 1pm. #Winning.
K, myself, and Nat( BGR) were part of the morning crew to set up the tent. I have it admit it looked amazing. I’m glad we got the tent up before it rained. In the 5:15a.m. of the morning it rained. Luckily, the rain wasn’t going to stick around.
After are set up, we helped Trailblazers with their tent and we walked around a bit.
Today was a big because Jay El, the CEO of BGR was in town. She host her last night at the REI shake out run. Today she is running the 10k with her 6 month of old baby. Then she ‘s doing a duck tour. Afterwards, she’ll us at the BAA downtown office for a tour, then dinner. Did I mention we are ready a 10k with all of that.
This would be my first race post last surgery. I’m still working on “ building up.” I loved the pre run stretch with trailblazhers and hanging out with the REI folks. Such a good , positive, fun, energy vibe.
When it got closer to 9 a.m. ( race time), the sun was coming out, the rain was gone, and the ladies were ready to run.
More than 5,000 women were running. I tried to pace myself and go with the flow. Around mile 4, I got hot and started taking off my layers. I did stop and walked when I came to a water stop. Overall not a bad finish for 1:04 minutes. I’m happy.
Of course I saw K , on the other side of memorial drive when we where running. Hey, she just finished running the Berlin Marathon. So she should be running faster than me. I also run into running friends, whom I found out just got back from running London and Berlin. Some did one, other’s did both. For others, this was their first 10k or first 10k in a long while.
Diversity in running progress.
All in all, great day.
