Another Track Tuesday
COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”
This track Tuesday was no joke . It was hard. Every Tuesday, getting up, the struggle is real. It’s cold, dark, there is snow on the ground and it’s below freezing. To add to the struggle, parking. I have to make sure to be up early enough to find a parking spot. The college kids aren’t even back yet. Next week, after MLK day, it might be a struggle.
Today, it was fine. Coach Dan and I were at the Reggie by 5:50a.m. At the Reggie, they don’t play. They unlock the doors at 6 a.m. Unlike the YMCA , East Boston that opens up at 6a.m. The doors are unlocked by 5:45a.m. This is not the East Boston Y. The doors were unlocked at 5:59a.m. this morning. LOL.
New Challenge. I was the main, only pacer for team Red. Jordan was the pacer for blue and Mary Beth has a knee injury so she couldn’t run. But I was glad she was there. She helped keep track of numbers for me. Today was 5- 800s. Which means running around the track 4 times. We did 5 sets of that with a 90 second break in between. Oh, at 10k pace. Then we ran 1- 800. Making sure to jog the curbs and run the straight aways fast. After that it 4- 200s. I couldn’t keep that of all of that. Then I had to make sure I was pacing correctly. Whew child. It was a lot.
My joy was seeing my community today. Black Girls Run, Black Men Run, Trailblazhers, Pioneers. There were new faces in this group that I hadn’t seen at Track Tuesday. To physically folks instead of on social media is priceless. That was my motivation and energy. We had fun. That is also part of the joy. It was a hard workout but the community made it fun. Coach Dan makes creates a fun and supportive environment.
I did better today as a pacer- running. Have to work on timing.
