A week off...back at it...No more play time
COVID-19, “The Rona Era”
I can’t believe I haven’t run in six days. Yikes! That was not planned and not good for marathon training. Or maybe it is. I ran last Tuesday. Wednesday was a teaching day, Thursday it rained, Friday was a teaching day, and Saturday I was on a plan to Phoenix. Sunday I participated in a photo shoot which started at 5a.m., Monday I was back on a plane to Boston. Today was a much run day.
Of course I left 90 degree weather to come back to 22 degree weather and it feels like January came to visit to visit today. And it’s windy AF to boot. I need to run. There are three weeks until the Boston Marathon and there is so much to do.
Right now, I need to focus on getting back to running. I made sure to be up at 4:45a.m. so I can stretch and get back to my morning running routine. Normally today would be a track Tuesday morning. I wanted to run and get my body moving again. Of course I would run on a cold ass windy day. Ugh.
I layered up. Put on the muffins, tights, and headlight because it was dark. Instead of running in my hood, I decided to run around Castle Island and Carson Beach.
The beach was quiet at first. I mitten up and put one foot in front of the other and just went. As I ran around Castle Island I did see a couple of runners, without any headlight or reflective gear.
I was paying attention to my body. I was feeling good and strong. My legs, pelvic floor, and back were all in line. I thought I should run a 10k this morning. My stride and pace was on point. I wasn’t tired.
Unfortunately something was wrong with my Strava app. It had me running 11 miles, when I just started. I had to rely on how my body feels and the route I was running. Luckily I’ve run it many times before so I knew the miles.
There was one guy, who yelled at me and said “That’s motivation” when I passed him on the sidewalk. I smiled and raised my hand to acknowledge him.
I kept on running.
It was so freaking windy, I felt like I was doing resistance training. When I reached the end of Carson Beach in Dorchester, I turned around. This is when the sun was slowly starting to rise. The later it was, the move I saw runners and walkers. By this time it was around 6:30a.m.
I felt energy and joy when I saw the sun rising over the over. Then I felt some tightness around my pelvic floor and this was not good. The annoyance that I hadn’t felt in a while came back. I would give the annoyance a 2 out of 10. It was still there.
I kept on running.
By the time I had gotten to my car I ran a 10k. I have no idea about my timed pace because my app was not working properly.
This is the start of three weeks of getting serious and increasing those miles.
