University closed...guess I'll do crossfit
COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”
It’s Friday. This week, week three was the first week of face to face teaching. There was an adjust from the previous two weeks of remote learning. Also this week ( Tuesday), I started crossfit. All that to say, I need to pivot and get back into a running and going back on campus rhythm. The impending ice storm is not helping the re adjusting rhythm. This morning, I’m getting ready to go on campus, when I saw that our university was closed due to weather. The roads were icy and the temperature was below freezing. When I saw the announcement it was 5:40 a.m. I was up, what was I going to do. Then I went into high gear. There is a crossfit class at 6a.m. and I could make it.
With a quick change of clothes and a bag packed with my gym shoes and water, I was out the door. It was snowing and the sidewalk was slushy. I’m walking fast. Then I realized, I didn’t pack a mask. Ugh, so I walked back to the house. I go to a local crossfit gym in my neighborhood. Lucky for me it is down my street. A quick walk is completely doable. It was too slippery and slushy to run this morning anyway.
With my mask in hand I was back walking the pavement. I made it with 2 minutes to spare. The same coach on Tuesday was there today. He recognized me, even in my mask.
I still don’t understand crossfit to be honest. I wanted to challenge my body and make her stronger. This morning we did 15 rounds of a series of exercises. I think there was too much squatting involve. I had to be mindful of my knee and do the best I could.
After a 15 minute warm up we got to it. I’ll be honest I was sweating like a dog. Squats, sit ups, jump rope, pull ups. It was a whole thing.
In the crappy weather, I still moved the body. That’s a Friday a.m. win
