COVID-19, “The Rona Era”
New day, new week, new grind, new sweat. Happy Monday. Today is the first time in three and a half weeks that I don’t have to” run before radiate.” Now that radiation is over I can just run and not rush. I’m so excited. This morning I decided to run on the Tri- Community Greenway. To be honest the decision was made for me when I woke up. Since I stayed with the Iowan last night in Woburn, my plan was to wake up early and drive to Mystic River Reservation by Assembly Row. I have to leave early because traffic is ridiculous and I want to start running by 6 a.m. at the latest. This morning I woke up around 5:30a.m. and I was not trying to rush. I don’t have to rush, since I’ve been doing that for 3 1/2 weeks. I just said F- it. I can run in the Iowan’s hood. That meant running on the Tri- Community Greenway, which isn’t a bad place to run. I can just lace up and run out of his front door.
This morning it was cool and a bit muggy at the same time. There was no one around. My body was a little stiff in getting moving and running. On the Greenway, I saw two other people( men) running. The walkers were all women. I don’t know if this is suburban thing or just a thing.
The first two miles felt like I was getting warmed up. Yesterday( Sunday) was a no run day. But the Iowan and I toured the USS Massachusetts. That battleship is massive. We did a lot of walking and high knees over things. We walked over 2.5 miles on that ship.
It only made sense why the first two miles were the warm up. A highlight on this Greenway, which goes through three communities( Stoneham, Woburn, and WInchester) is running through the graffiti tunnel. You never know what new graffiti there will be to look at.
My route lead me from Woburn to Stoneham before I turned around. While in Stoneham, I somehow got a little lost. Part of the Greenway gets broken up by streets and business. I might have missed where to pick it up after I crossed a couple of streets.
I eventually found the path again. I added more miles to run. If that is the worse thing to happen on a Monday, I’ll take it.
In the section of Stoneham I ran in, I saw a couple of Trump/Pence signs. I hoped that I looked like a runner. And I wanted to run with confidence, in the section of this town that I was lost in, as I looked for signs for the Greenway. It was probably a couple of minutes before I found the trail again.
Running this morning I felt good and strong. I think it may be time to up the mileage as I build back up to running 10 milers and 13.1 miles.
