Friday the 13th Beach run
COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”
Day #3 of the heat wave. This morning, it’s 78 degrees before 6 a.m. I thought about running to the beach from my house and back, which would be 8 miles round trip. I’m not ready for an 8 miler, especially in this heat. I couldn’t get the energy to leave my house by 5 a.m. when the the temperature was in the low 70s. Oh well.
I drove to Revere Beach at 5:45a.m. When I parked I was able to see another amazing sunrise over the water. Unlike yesterday at Castle Island, there were more people watching, taking pictures, and just taking in the awe of the sunrise. While we were all “ awwing” I stretched out.
After that, I started on my run. I wasn’t sure about the mileage this morning. I knew I needed to be slow and steady. I had to reserve my energy in the heat. The beach was active. There was an exercise group doing squats and stretching. People were claiming their spots on the beach. Some took advantage and just went into the water.
On this beach there are more walkers than runners. I noticed the difference in beach “ morning active” culture of Castle Island and Revere Beach. Those differences range for the geography of the beach, age, race, location, and access.
Around mile 3, I got tired. I need to work on my nutrition- hands down but I slowed down a bit before continuing at an increased pace. I’ve had alot of sweat in my eye and in my special lady bits. When I reached mile 5, I decided to walk/run the last mile. More walking than running but I was still moving. The last mile I did on the beach. I think my body is getting back into the 10k groove. I did a 10k on Friday the 13th. So far, the only scary thing was the ridiculous heat.
