Run before Radiation: 10k a.m. Friday Beach run

COVID-19, “The Rona Era”

I made sure to get plenty of rest because today was going to be a 10k a..m. Friday beach run. I planned this out before I went to bed last night. I ran five miles on Thursday, I can progress to six miles today. I know running on Revere Beach is six miles, a 10k run, since I’ve done it so many times before.

I reminded myself that I’m working on building back up to a 13.1 miler but I need to feel my body. I have to acknowledge that my body is still recovering from surgery and all the trauma of surgery and COVID.

I made it to Revere Beach by 5:45a.m. I was there as the sun started to rise. Many people were there before me, waiting for the sun to rise. She did not disappoint. This morning there was no rain. It will rain later today but right now, the sky is clear. In New England for the month of July, we’ve had two days of no rain. Insane.

I stretched out and slowly eased into my run. My plan was to run on the street along side the beach and then on my return back, to run on the beach. The 10k route : three miles down the beach and three miles back up the beach.

I kept my pace going. I saw two different “workout” groups working out on the beach. I wanted to stop and get information on the organization/gym they are with but that would have slowed me down. I didn’t even take as many pics as normal. My goal was to feel out my body running a longer distance.

I’m always amazed at that time in the morning because there are so many cars parked along the beach with people sleeping or just sitting in their car. I passed several folks in their car.

There were people out walking. I didn’t see many runners, just a couple of men. Those men ran faster than me and had their shirts off. I didn’t know it was that hot.

I kept running. My groin annoyance was not bad. I also started my period this morning. I wasn’t sure about the cause of the annoyance this morning. It didn’t stop me from running.

Around mile three, the half way point. I felt like I needed more energy. This was a reminder that I need to work on my nutrition. It has to be modified more so because of radiation and cancer.

I kept going. I was happy when I made it to mile 4. Two more to go . When I reached mile five, then I transition from running on the pavement to running on the sand.

In the sand I had to do some hi-knee running. I thought it would be harder/firmer. It was still soft.

I did it. 10k.
