Another Hill Repeat for RTW
COVID-19, “The Rona Era”
Another Saturday running with the Road to Wellness 5k free running clinic team. Of course there is traffic on I-93 South at 8:10a.m. I’m annoyed because GPS told me that I will arrive at 8:47a.m. Normally, without traffic on a Saturday it would take 20 mins. Clearly this was not going to be the case. So annoying.
When I arrived, not everyone was there, which is good. That just means, we are all late. I had a chance to talk with S from the B.A.A., who brought me a sports bra last week. Today I have it on. I wanted to tell her that I had it on and it was holding in the girls well. They are locked, loaded, and not moving all. Today was my test bra run.- And the test went extremely well
It’s odd to say this, I was glad to find out we are doing hill repeats again today. Last week I did three. Today, my goal is five. We learned more tips and skills for working the hills and then going down hills.
I was in the runners group today. Last week it was the runners/walkers group.
I felt better doing the hills this week. I knew what to expect and I could practice the “ left foot, right foot, breathe” and keeping my head at 45 degrees, breathing in air. I had to make sure to swing my arms but not too much because that was energy, yet it helped with the extra push up.
I would have loved to have done all of this at 6a.m. instead of 9a.m. but I was still doing my thing, with everyone else.
I loved seeing our different groups go up and down the hill. There were supportive faces and words in both directions. The lovely shades and curves and black and brown folks kept moving arms and bodies forward as we worked the hill.
Another trick, gum to help with breathing. All the things I learned.
Around my fourth time up the hill, the coaches started to move everyone to go back to the start. I was not. I was going to finish my five hill repeats, two more than last time. I was the second to last person to cross our “ finish line.’ and it felt great.
My goal is to do this 10 times. That was the plan last week and maybe this week. I know I can and will get to number 10.
