Roxbury Love

COVID-19, “The Rona Era”

Today is “ hair done did day.” My hair appointment is at 10a.m. My plan was to walk and then go to Dudley Cafe, a local coffee shop that I love before going to get my hair done.

Today was a perfect magical day. The weather was in the mid 70s, blue sky, and just the right level of a breeze and sun. I explored Roxbury this morning which is a hidden gem in the city. The houses, art work, greenspace, and history. All of these things tend to get over looked. Roxbury is the historic home of the black community. Like so many other neighborhoods of color, it’s being gentrified. The section of Fort Hill, was the section of elite black folks and it was where white people lived. Throughout the years, increasing, that is where many white people live in Roxbury. It’s an interesting dynamic.

I know when I moved to Boston, I wanted to live in Roxbury but the location of my job would make my daily commute a three and half hour roundtrip drive, everyday.

Roxbury is the home of New Edition, Malcolm X , and now the Road to Wellness 5k race.
