Saturday 10k post surgery
COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”
It so feels like spring. It’s 53 degrees out, sunny, clear, and just oh so lovely. Thursday the doctor gave me the ok to start running. It’s been six weeks since I ran. It’s been six weeks since the lumpectomy. The doctor told me to wear a good sports bra and go hit the pavement. I wanted to test myself today. Earlier this week, I ran/walked a bit. Today I wanted to run and it was the perfect day for it.
I ran along the Charles River. My manageable goal was a 5k. Many folks had the same idea I had. Runners and walkers were out. The rowers were rowing on the Charles, it was that kind of day.
At first I felt good but I noticed my boobs started to hurt. I think my incision was rubbing up against my sports spa, which was causing uncomfortable pain. I kept on going.
I was in the moment of running along the Esplanade, seeing my stalkers, and soaking in the sun. I ran 6.36 miles in 1:04:40 at an average 10:10 min/mile pace.
I’m going to try to get as much running in before the next surgery, which is breast reconstruction in a couple of weeks. Then I’ll heal for a couple of weeks before radiation treatment. Hopefully I’ll be able to run during radiation process. We’ll see.
Happy to get that spring 10k in!
