First 10k run of 2020!
Yess!! I did it. I ran a 10k. The road has been long and it is far from over. The last time I ran a 10k was in October when I ran in state #46. It’s been over four months since I could run and run without knee pain. Today I chose to run along the Charles because I know that is 7 miles. I wasn’t sure if I was going to run 6 or 7 miles today. I knew either one was going to be my target number.
This morning was very windy and cold. It is still winter even thou we have not had winter weather. It was quiet and empty running this morning. I started at 6 a.m. normally there are lots of runners. I saw less than 10 people running this morning, which is rare.
As I ran my body and most importantly my knee felt good. Around mile 4 I felt the need to walk for a bit to give my knee a break. I did that and then kept going. From miles 4-5 was hard because I was going up an incline and I felt I was out of gas. I rested for 30 seconds at mile 5 and I was determined to run a mile nonstop until I got to six. And I did.
I made it to 6 miles and I was running around a 10:30 pace. Again, establishing a baseline. In the next two weeks I’ll work up to 8 miles and getting better pacing. I’m making progress. I just need to keep doing my PT exercises and keep to my anti-inflammation diet
