First Post Surgery Walk

First Post Surgery Walk

COVID-19, ‘The Rona Era”

Friday, I recovered and let the anesthesia wear off. I’m not allowed to shower for 48 hours. I left the hospital at 3:30pm on Thursday. I have to wait until 3:30pm today to shower. I’m tired and sore but otherwise, I feel fine. I am curious to see what I look like after I take off the surgical bra.

The good news is I can walk and move. Actually walking is encouraged after surgery. Last night is snowed on and off. Today it is slippy out. My thought today is to walk to the post office to mail a package and walk back. I’m in no hurry, I want to gauge how I feel walking. Since the majority of the sidewalks are still covered with snow, I walked on the street. The key, is to walk on streets that are one ways. I can safely walk in the middle of the street until I see a car coming my way.

Moving my arms, I was a bit sore by my right breast but it was not bad. When I got to the post office, I was five minutes early before they opened, at 8 a.m. The nice post worker, let me mail my package early. We had a great conversation about the former administration trying to bury the postal service in the ground. He was upset that the cost of postal mail was going up and services are being delayed. He was hopeful the new administration would clean this up. I told the wonderful postman that I love the postal service, which I do. I hope things can turn around.

After our pleasant conversation, I walked homed. The round trip was 1.81 miles. Almost two. I would have walked to get two but my friend N, came by to drop off food and she was waiting at my door. Food totally trumps walking .19 miles in the cold.

It was wonderful to see my friend N. We social distance, while we talked and caught up for 30 minutes outside. I hated that I couldn’t invited her up or give her a hug. This too will pass.

Not bad for a first morning walk. To continue the walking and to get out of the house, Scott and I will visit the New Bedford Whaling museum later today. I’ll take it slow and easy as I recover and reflect during the Lenten season.
