Sunday Sunny 5k walk
COVID-19, “The Rona Era”
20 degrees out and it’s sunny with a clear blue sky out. Totally great weather to run in but I’m not running for a couple of weeks. Since I have to walk, I might as well walk in different neighborhood communities. It’s been a while since I’ve run in Franklin Park. I miss seeing the black and brown community of walkers and runners. That is where I went this morning.
I was there at 7:30a.m. because I knew my 5k walk might take about an hour so I wanted to get started. It was a bit windy out. To my surprise and happiness, the walking/running path around the park was shoveled and clear. I didn’t have to walk on the street.
I reminded myself that I’ve walked before I ran. And, around this same time last year, I couldn’t run because of my Hoffa Fat Pad knee. I was walking then too. So, the post lumpectomy surgery needs time to heal. Three days after surgery, I’m walking, moving, and taking it easy.
It was a lovely walk through Franklin Park. The normal amount of black and brown people I would see was absent. I saw more white folks running, walking their dogs, walking, and cross country skiing then the usual motley of skins of brown. :).
As silly as it sounds, walking takes so much longer than running. I finished my walk in 58 minutes. I know for me, that’s 10k run time. I just have to be kind and patience with myself. And thankful that I can move.
Slowly getting there……
