It's Inauguration Day!!

COVID-19, The Rona Era.

Today is the day, it is here!!! Inauguration day. There will be a new president and the first female Vice President of the United States. I’m so excited. The first black woman V.P. I’m so ready for a new administration and to get American back on track again. Today in honor of the V.P, I ran 9 miles for the Divine Nine. That was my way of honoring the black sororities and fraternity. I ran this morning with my white flower and pearls on. Since Madame V.P is an AKA, that was my love and support for her.

I realized as well, that I haven’t run nine miles all year. Thou, we are 20 days in the new year. Last year I ran two 10 milers in 12 months. My long distance running is out of practice. I’m normally good for a 10k run, 7 miles at best. I was going to do it and persevere today. Gloves, headlight, shoes…I was ready to go.

My first issue was not fully mapping out my 9 mile route. I know from my house to Revere Beach and back is eight miles. I didn’t want to past the belle Isle Marsh because it isn’t well lit. I wanted to be around a busy street, lights, and people action. After the rioting white mob attacked the capital two weeks ago, I need to be careful running alone, even more so. I don’t want to be an easy target for someone.

I decided to run into Winthrop, at least the mainstreets are busy. When I reached four miles I started to turn back and the daylight started to come.

When I reached home I completed 8.17 miles in 1:29:20 10:56min/mile. I had .83 miles left. My hands were freezing cold and I was out of energy. Note to self: start fueling better for longer runs. Clearly it as been a while since I did that. I ended the run there and walked for .83 miles for the total of nine.

My positive take away: I ran more than a 10k., two more extra miles. That is something to keep working towards.

I’m all about celebrating today, but tomorrow the work starts, the repair starts, the long road of recovery and innovation starts.
