Friday Beach Run
COVID-19, “The Rona Era”
Another warm 57 degree morning. It may reach 70 degrees today. Fall weather in New England is always so unpredictable. Open up the windows to let in the cool air, wait no, close all the windows and put on the heat because it’s CAF. Today is a warm one and it’s Friday.
I thought, while I still can I should have a beach run. It’s still dark out. I put on my reflective vest but I could not find my headlight, which was frustrating. That meant I couldn’t run in the street. I would have to stay on the sidewalk and close to the light for running on the beach.
I made my way to Revere Beach. I could smell the saltwater and hear the gentle ways of the water. When I started it was peaceful, hardly anyone around. To my happiness there was an Asian American couple running early this morning on the beach. Thankfully they were social distancing as they came from behind me.
As I continued to run, I did see many of the construction workers in their cars, reading on their phones or talking as they waited to start work. With the darkness, I only saw one other runner with a reflective vest running on the beach. Oh I so wish I had my headlight.
While running, I was listening to my R& B tunes and not thinking about the 11 days until the election or body remains of the Tulsa massacre being found or the lack of funding for public higher education.
I just enjoyed the run, the ocean and the music. The Friday happy and Friday surprise was seeing the sun come up over the horizon. I did stop. The sky was a beautiful shades of pink, blue, and purple. The picture does not do justice for what I saw. It is in those moments that I’m happy I run early and I could see such beauty.
