Second to last Track Tuesday
Era of Anti-Blackness and Fascist shittery
Today is a fun track workout day. That seems odd to say but it is true. We are doing 200s. 24 -200s. That breaks down into 6 sets of 4- 10k, 5k, 5k, 1mile pace- repeat. For pacing , we should be around 1:11 for the 10k pace and 1:05/1:06 for mile pace. Got it! Oh and there is a 45 sec break between each 200.
Not as many folks showed up today, as previous track workouts. It’s light outside early, Boston runners are in tapering mode, and April is just busy. Team Red still had a good and strong group. MB, my co- pacer was back from her month exploring New Zealand. This woman knows how to retire the right way. It was so good to see her and catch up.
Some BGR Boston ladies showed up too. It was sparse but I still saw people I had not seen in a while.
This is week two of just taking an aleve and wearing my knee compression sleeve. I’m not popping my 4 pilss to run.
The time went by quickly. Everyone on team red stayed at Pace. Yeah. Coach Dan joined us for a 200. This Pacer girl was on point with the pace. Just saying.
The tunes were kicking too. Seriously, it was a running dance party. The music felt like spring break and summer time. All I know is I had to drop it low a bit and shake my ass before starting a new set.
The amount of fun, community, support, and running is always the perfect mix. We did not make it to 24 but we got 20 in, which is over 2 miles of running.
The question everyone ask “ are you training for anything?”. When I was asked the question, my response was “ training for life.” This is my happy , joyful spot. The running industry, organizations, and culture of running is not a welcoming and inclusive space. It is the sub communities of belonging in which I feel a connection to running. That is what brings out my joy.
