Hello April

Hello April

Running in a Facist State.

Today is the first day of April, April first. And today is the first Track Tuesday of the month. After today, there are two more Track Tuesdays left. Oh, and this is also the start of street cleaning. So many things going on before 6 a.m. Today is post seeing the Orthopedic doctor. Unfortunately, my knee issue is not mechanical. I don’t have any lose cartilage or bone spurs floating around my back knee. It’s going to be apart pain management. I have a degenerative meniscus and worn cartilage. It’s all related to my arthritis. I don’t know if my fall sped things up but it was inevitable that this would happen.

I’m going to have to pre warm up, post cool down, stretch, ice, and pop an aleve on a daily bases. In the next five to ten years I will have to have a knee replacement. End stop.

Today, for Track Tuesday, I thought I would try the one aleve instead of the three advil and one tylenol combo for track. I did that and put on my knee compression sleeve.

Today at track is was kind of sparse. We were down pacers and not a lot of folks showed up. For some it’s spring break, people were sick, and many ran 18 to 20 mile for their long run last weekend. People are tired and busy. Busy and tired.

Plus this workout was hard. 1600 at tempo/marathon pace, 800 at 10k pace, 400 at 5k pace with 90 sec break in between and then repeat. That was a lot of running around in circles. I got my track math- 8 times around, 4 times around, twice around, repeat.

I’m thankful to Jill who joined me on the Red team to help with counting and keeping pace. My knee held up until the last 400, I just couldn’t do it. We had a good team red today. I kept them on pace, which I was proud of.

I ran over 3.5 miles today. That made me happy. It was a good first day of birthday week plus two week celebration
