Brotha Sister Run- May
COVID-19, “The Rona Era
Every second Satruday of the month is the Brother Sister Run. Black Men Run and Black Girls Run get together to support each other and run together. It’s like our once a month get together with the cousins. The community, love, and support is always there for the 1 mile, 3 mile, or 5 mile walk/run option. No family member is left behind.
Today KB and I arrived an hour and half early because we were going to run 6 miles for our long run. Plus this would give us time to chat and catch up. Together we ran 4 .50 miles before meeting everyone at 8a.m.
Today we had a great representation of BMR and BGR. I love to see the men that came with their kids. We started off with some warm up drills. Then we came together in a circle, to introduce ourselves and our WHY for being in. I think that is so important and powerful. Many of the WHYs were connected to physical and mental health, family, stress of racism, being blessed to move, community, and my favorite, “ Why not be here”.
KB and I had a plane to run 1.50 miles then we would go back to the start and set up the refreshment table for everyone.
Being in this space and seeing all the lovely shades of brown makes me happy. This is a running community that I love and feel connected to.
