Last long Saturday a.m. run of 48

COVID-19, “The Rona Era”

This is the last long run Saturday before I turn 49 and run a Marathon on my birthday . :). From Friday April 14-Wednesday April 19th, Marathon activities, festivities, events, and situations have been on going. I was doing a lot of cheering, supporting and sociology. In that time frame I was on two panels, quoted in the newspaper, did a NPR A1 podcast, and was filmed for a local TV segment with NBC news. No running happened. Now it’s time to get back and focus on my task at hand.

This morning, I ran 8 miles around the Charles Esplanade. This was the typical Boston weather because it felt like fall instead of spring. I put on my fuel vest and compression tights to get a “ dress rehearsal” of how I would feel. The compression tights are no joke. After mile 3, they loosen up a bit in the waist. But damn.

My body felt good, but I did feel tired. One of my on going issues has been with fueling my body and getting that “ gas tank” ready on race day. I need to be extremely mindful this week to start fueling up now.

Running around the Charles, it was quiet compared to how it had been the last couple of months with everyone training for the Boston Marathon. The rowers were out in force..it must be their season. It was quiet.

To my surprise, I ran into Christine, one of my Track Tuesday people. She ran in her 14th Boston on Monday. And she was riding her bike to meet a friend to work on miles for a June race. See, the spectrum of running crazy. I did Boston once and I’m all set. We talked about the race, the situation at mile 21, and she gave me some tips for Big Sur, since she ran it a while ago.

Today I ran 8.13 miles in 1:25:24; 10:30 mile pace. I’m doing something right. Now, I need to rest, hydrate, and eat well. The next long run will be 4.30 and 26.2.
