Edited Long Run Saturday
COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”
I have two long run Saturdays before the Flying Pig Half Marathon. The last two Saturdays I didn’t run my 10miler. I was in New Orleans for a conference and then Boston Marathon shenanigans happened. I need to get my ass back in gear.
The plan was 10 miles around the Charles. I know I can get 10 miles in and I know the route. Great, check. The weather forecast said it will rain all morning and into early afternoon. My plan was to run early in the morning to beat the the rain.
I didn’t get up as early as I wanted but I was parked across the Charles on memorial drive by 6:45a.m. A brief stretch and I was off for my run.
It was quiet post Boston Marathon craziness. Quiet, cloudy, and cool. By the museum of science, the dinosaur had a bib number( cute). As I ran I thought about taking a detour from the 10 mile route that I know to see the ducks and the Boston Marathon finish line.
I started to see some folks out running and walking but it was still quiet. Running through the Esplande, it started to sprinkle just a bit but nothing big. To my surprise, the stalkers were out with their stalker chicks. That was the first time seeing that this year. Spring is the season.
I was disappointed when I ran down Beacon Street and through the Public Gardens and the Ducklings were not dressed up or decorated. They were not wearing any clothes. If they had for Boston Marathon weekend, they were gone now.
I made my way up to the Commons. I was able to work the hill a bit before stopping to see my favorite memorials- Charles Shaw and the 54th regiment. Still a little sprinkle, but nothing big.
Turning down on Bolyston street, the rain started. The sprinkles got a bit harder and harder. Then is all started to come down hard and fast. At this point I finished a 10k. 4 more miles to run. I was about a mile from my car. If I can make it to my car and the rain stops, I’ll finish a 5k . If not, I was out.
Sure enough, the rain kept on coming. I was so soaked. This sista girl is not trying to get sick.
I finished. 7.31 miles, 10:56 mile pace; 1:19:57. Not too bad. Of course I was stopping for pictures. Hopefully next week, my last 10 miler I’ll have a great time.
