Last Track Tuesday
COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”
Today is the last Track Tuesday at the Reggie with the Heartbreaker crew. For over 16 weeks, we came to the Reggie to train, run, laugh, dance, sweat, cheer, and support each other. We did it in the dark, cold weather, snow, and rain. We were inside but we had to drive in those conditions to get to Reggie.
I love my team Red. We were a subcommunity in a community. The pacers got to know us and we got to know them. In the 16 weeks, I found myself getting stronger and becoming a better runner. Also, I got to know some new races and connect with some older ones. Getting up on Tuesdays was not always a joyful but I knew once I got to the Reggie it would be fine.
Now I can’t say “ It smells like Thursday” or “ Rad Rad Red”, or “ Get ready for the breeze”, “ Keep your sexy pace.”. Seeing Trailblazher, Pioneers, Black Men Run crews were the best.
In this whole process, I found other runners that ran Big Sur. I appreciate the tips and advice they gave me. The Bonus of the 16 weeks was seeing people who were training for their first Boston Marathon and being a small part of their journey.
For 16 weeks, the Reggie and seeing the crew was my challenging and happy place. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
