Saturday Summer Running
COVID-19, “The Rona Era”
It’s October 28th and it will be 80 degrees today. Today is a 10 miler. I knew I had to get up early because I do not like to run in the heat and I had an eye appointment. 6:10a.m. I was out the door and it was already 62-63 degrees out. I knew to wear shorts and a T- running top this morning. Of course it’s still dark. I had my reflective vest, fuel jacket, and headlights on. I can only image how crazy I might have looked.
There is the plan, running route I have in my head and what actually happens. My plan was to do a loop. Running to Revere Beach, make a right, head towards Winthrop, then make my way to East Boston and home. I’ve done this loop before, back in the day. It’s 10 miles. This morning, I wasn’t feeling running that far. I honestly did not think I would run 10 miles today, I felt off. Friday was such an extremely long day. I ordered steak tips and greek salad for dinner. With a glass of red wine of course. I was asleep by 8:30pm.
This morning, I felt well rested but I knew my hydration and nutrition were off. Plus my period is coming, so I wasn’t feeling my best. Some miles are better than no miles is my motto.
In the dark, I started running the route towards Revere Beach. By the time I made it to Brenman Street Park. I had the idea of taking the Greenway connector. The Connector goes behind one of the T stations and links to Constitution Beach. I thought this would be a nice detour toward Revere Beach.
Sunrise is at 7:10a.m. It was 6ish when I made my detour. This was a perfect urban running adventure. Living my the airport, I could see the planes on the runway. It was such a beautiful back drop, seeing the airport, running alone the beach, and the rising.
I decided to keep on running along the water, so I could see the water and the airplanes. This lead me to Winthrop and not Revere Beach. The goal. Run 5 miles then turn around.
I made it to 4.50 miles and turn around in Winthrop to head back. By the time I reached home, I completed 9 miles. I was going to stop there. That is good enough, right? It was still early, I wasn’t in a rush, I could run/walk a mile. I could push myself to make it 10. To my surprise I did that.
My time could have been better. I stopped many times along the way to take pictures and capture the morning beauty.
10 miles complete.
