5k around the island
COVID-19, “The Rona Era”
Day two of August and it’s another glorious morning. I realized with school starting soon I won’t be able to run/walk to different neighborhoods with the flexibility that I have in the summer. I drive to Deer Island this morning to walk. My goal for week 2 of post surgery recovery is to up my mileage. This mornings goal: walk a 5k. Last week I walked around the two mile marker, which is great. It’s time to up the walk a bit. Deer Island is perfect because it’s almost 3 miles around.
I was there about 5:45a.m. this morning when the sun was slowly starting to rise up over the water. Walking on the island, I’ll admit it was hard not to want to run it. I know better.
I saw one couple walking and two people walking their dogs. It was quiet and so beautiful in the early morning. I just walked and took in the surrounding on such a great morning.
It took almost 55 minutes to walk a 5k. I don’t think I was strolling but maybe I was? I wasn’t in a hurry to be in a meeting like yesterday. It was good to take my time and move.
Normally this would be track Tuesday with the MIT heart breakers crew. I won’t see them until September. I miss them. Part of recovery is patience and healing and that is what I am doing.
