Week 3 of Road to Wellness 5k training clinic
COVID-19, ‘The Rona Era”
Week three of RTW training and it’s Juneteeth. I don’t know of a better way to celebrate the day. I’m in Franklin Park, in Roxbury, the historic home of the black community in Boston. And. Our mental, physical, and emotional health are so important especially dealing with systemic racism. Even the CDC stated that racism is a fundamental driver of racial and ethnic health disparities. We are all at the training clinic to reduce those health disparities. All of us were making sure our bodies and minds were strong today and we had fun doing it.
People were in three different groups of runners, walkers, and inbetween walk/runners. I was in the middle group. I had a faster pace then the walkers but I can’t run yet.
The middle group was a big group. I loved supporting the ladies and walking the 1.50 mile route with them. I talked with many of the ladies about their exercise journey and what keeps them going. The women have many different experiences, body shapes, and inspirations for why they showed up today. The main point, they showed up today!
After all the groups came together, we had a dance party to celebrate Juneteenth and then we did yoga.
This is the power of collective action and community building. This was how I did Juneteeth.
