Last run of 2020
Covid-19, “ The Rona Era”
YES!!!! The Last a.m. run of 2020!!! I would scream it if I could. I wasn’t sure if this run was going to happen today. Early this morning it was raining hard. I don’t run in the run. If the rain had calmed down to a light drizzle, I would run in that kind of weather. I waited and waited. By 6:45 the hard rain had stopped. I wanted the last run of the year to be in the city of Boston. It was still wet and foggy when I started running. My running route went from the South End, Back Bay, Charles River Esplanade, Boston Commons, and back to the South End for 3.41 miles.
On my year end run, I passed by the Finish Strong Boston Marathon Finish Line. The last time I passed the sign was in September when I was there along with other BGR members cheering on our friend who was completing the virtual Boston Marathon. I was here 10 mile pacer earlier that morning. Oh the memories.
I can’t count how many times I have run along the Esplanade throughout the year and taken some amazing pictures of the early morning while running. Or even now my new obsession with my stalkers which always makes me joyful.
The year people took notice of black lives and the murder of black men and women. What it means to run while black. This was a year that “ black runners” in the running community became popular.
This was the first year since I started the 50 states journey that I didn’t run in a state. I’m thankful for the 1st run and SuperSunday races that I ran. I didn’t know those would be my last races for the year. I had knee pain in the start of the year. I learned it is called Hoffa Fat Pad. I learned what I needed to do to make it better - squats. At some point I will have to have knee replacement surgery.
Being in a zoom space 24/7, running became my physical and mental outlet. I didn’t run the miles I should have run. I did the one ten miler but I kept on running. That was the goal. Keep moving and grooving in all of this.
Here’s to the last run and more runs( hopefully a race or two) in 2021
