10.31 for 10/31?
COVID-19, “The Rona Era”
Not sure if yesterday was a trick or a treat. We got snow, several inches of it. Talk about an October surprise, this was something that no one was expecting. The last three Halloween Octobers it has been cold but no snow. Just another…really to the month of October and 2020.
Today is Halloween and in my places Halloween has been cancelled for safety and virus reasons. I know in Salem, they cancelled Halloween. By 8pm tonight all bars, restaurants, museums, activities will be shut down. It’s odd, because in the city of Boston, the Mayor Walsh did not cancel Halloween and the kids will be trick r’ treating tonight. I’m curious how that will go.
I know I will be on lockdown. Today, is the only day of Sun and it’s the last day of the month. In the 30 degree weather my goal was to run 10.31 miles for 10/31.
I didn’t start running until 8 a.m. I slept in and I had to think where I could run that knew it would be 10 miles. I opted for Castle Island/Carson Beach. I hadn’t been there in a while and I thought it would be pretty and peaceful.
There was an oddness of seeing the fall foliage of the colored leaves with snow and ice next to it.
At first their were not a lot of people, within an hour I saw lots of people with their heavy coats, coffee, and friends walking or walking a dog. This is part of the reason why I don’t like to run “ Tiffany late”….I see people.
It was sunny and not so bad. I had to do a combo of running in the streets and on the sidewalk. It was icy and snowy on some parts of the sidewalk. I refuse to slip and fall.
When I passed Carson Beach and got close to UMASS, there was a 5k race going on. I didn’t see what it was for. There were people with drinks and food for the runners. I am going to assume it was a costume theme. I saw runners in spiderman and Wakanda outfits running. They even had a “cheer squad” which consisted of one or two people as mile markers.
I feel strong and good while running but I was tired. I had a lot of layers on while running and it has been a while since that has happened. It was like switching from summer/fall running into winter running overnight.
I’m not sure if I hit my 10.31 mileage. At some point my Map my run tracker had ended the run at 7.20miles. I was running 11:09min/mile at 1:20:20. There was a point I paused the mileage, unpaused to continue to run, but I found out I never unpaused it. That was mileage not tracked. When I restarted it again the same thing happen. I got a mile in. By this time I had 23% of battery life in my phone. Talk about trick r treat.
I ended the month with miles, sweat, snow, fall foliage, stalkers, and halloween costumes.
I decided just to walk out the rest of my miles….man, this month. :)
