Girls on the Run Spring 5k
June 1st whoot- whoot. Today I’m kicking off the month with my Back Girls Run crew and Girls on the Run. The ladies and I volunteered to support Girls on the Run Spring 5k. GOTR is a great organization, movement to empower young girls and build their self-esteem through running. These are ladies from 1st to 6th grade. Today was the first time they ran a 5k! There were over 900 girls that participated in the spring program. It was amazing. I was on the Spirit Crew and the Medal Crew.
I just loved seeing these young, confident, sassy, excited little momma’s doing their thing. I just hope that the continue to keep that spirit and confidence.
On a side note, the girls didn’t know anything about jump rope or double dutch. We had to show them. And once we did, the wore us out. The ladies wanted to keep doing it and d oing it. LOL. That was fun and exhausting.
The biggest reward was being at the finish line to hand out medals and seeing the wave of girls run to the finish line. Looking at their faces and energy was just the best! They actually motivated me to keep going and not have excuses. It was just the best!
And most all we wanted the black and brown girls to see us out there too! Wanted them to see an image of themselves that they may not see.
