GOTR 5k- remix
Today was about GOTR- girls on the run. Today was suppose to be their Fall 5k race event. Because of weather and the conditions on the running route, the 5k was cancelled. We have to keep the ladies safe. After a 10 week program, this would be their final, big event. I was going to be Wonder Women and the #girlgang crew was going to volunteer as well. Just when you think that is the end of the story……..
One of the Boston run coaches, N., reached out to me on instagram because her girls still wanted to run. She asked if they found a place would I want to come out and volunteer and run with them. Word has it, the ladies wanted to meet me because they watched my ted talk. How can I say no to that.
N., found a place at Faxon Field in Quincy. They were going to run from 7-9a.m. I told her I would be there with some of my crew. 4 of the #girlgang members showed up to cheer and tune it up. My co-ambassador even brought snacks and the BGR tent, because she is awesome.
It was 22 degrees outside and at some point I couldn’t feel my feet.
Despite the cold it was exciting to see the ladies. My co- ambassador brought the energy to the ladies. As soon as they got off the bus she and I were ready for them. We had cow bells, clappers, and our voices to cheer on the ladies.
My regret was not fully participating in the pre-run warm up. K and R from #girlgang got it started. My frozen hands and feet reset my mood and I had to reset it again for a positive adjustment. It was good I was supporting the workout/warmup from the back.
We did run one lap with the ladies before going to our cheer stations. I was ready to run if I had to, at a slow pace.
