Jim Kane Sugar Bowl 5k
Ya'll know I am an a.m. runner. I don't run at night, I don't run in the afternoon, I don't run mid-day. I run in the early a.m. period. Because I love my Black Girls Run Boston crew, also known as #girlgang, I signed up to run this race this them. I missed last weekend's 5k because I was running state #37 in California. It was important, not only as the BGR-Boston ambassador but also as a fellow sole sista to be there and support my crew.
Today I got up and I did not run. I had to restrain myself because I wasn't going to over do it. I'm still tired from California and my period is about to come. I know the changes in my body.
This race started at 7pm. By the time I got there 5pm( I wanted to avoid traffic and scope at the area that I was running) I was tired. Not only tired but hungry too. Seeing my fellow #girlgang members energized me to a point. lol. I also love being around them. We had our cheer squad, volunteers for the race, and our runners. There was some kick ass girl power there.
I had to remind myself that this was a fun run, this was a 5k, it was a lovely cool evening to run around Carson Beach, and I was with my #girlgang.
The race itself was a flat course and there was a diverse arrange of folks running. I enjoyed being around other runners that pushed me to run even faster and pick up my stamina. Seeing my other BGR members to give them high-fives and smiles along the way did put an extra pep in my step.
As I was running back to finish the .1 in 3.1 I saw and heard my cheer squad....heaven.
Yes, I was able to run at 7pm but it was with the motivation and energy from my BGR crew.
