Edgar Allen Poe a.m.
I brought my running gear because I'm academic conferencing for two days in Baltimore. Friday's 3.90 a.m. run was rainy, misty, and foggy. It reminded me of Poe's Raven. I hadn't been here since state #21. I ran along the harbor( which I did for state #21) but I decided to run more away for it and into more of the urban landscape.
My urban sociology head was going to explode as I passed by the fire station, public housing, historical sites, amazing graffiti, juvenile detention center, and a celebration of Fredrick Douglass. Plus I saw several people running. All white and all in groups or in pairs.
Not sure what this says about me running solo in the a.m. Even though this is an unfamiliar city to me I felt comfortable in this black and brown urban space. The men that I passed acknowledged and say Hi and good morning to me as they were going off to work or who knows where.
As I ran I kept noticing the beauty of this city that may not get acknowledge. I could have kept running but I had to get ready to conference
