Getting Selma Ready
Era of facism, racism, and WTF
This weekend I was busy conferencing at the Eastern Sociological Society. I met with my publisher, saw some friends, was on a panel, and my students came to see what conferencing, networking, and academic socializing was all about. The weekend was busy. The conference ended Saturday, so I had to run on Sunday. We leave for Selma on Thursday. The most mileage I have done this year is a 10k. Still working on this wobbly knee. I’m running leg three , which is 8 miles. Today, I need to try for 7 or 8 miles.
I’m going to test out interval running for 7 or 8 miles. My Interval timer is set for a 3 -1. Run for 3 minutes, walk for 1 minute. I know this will take about an hour and a half. My feet and body need to get use to running/moving for that long.
This morning also starts daylight savings time. We spring forward an hour. I was a bit slow this morning moving. What I thought was 7a.m. was now 8a.m. By the time I arrived at Revere Beach it was 9:30a.m. Despite a slight windy breeze, the beach was not too busy for a beach run.
It’s always tough starting off. After a couple miles, I’m warmed up and in the groove. I did good with interval running. My new game/motivation was to only take pictures when I was walking to keep my flow going. But there were a couple of situations while running that I had to stop and take a picture or two.
My knee and body felt good. I made a mental note to have fuel and water with me when I run in Selma.
I completed 7.02 miles in 1:26:04 at 12:15 mile pace. I can do 8 miles in an hour and half. I think I’m ready.
Let’s go!
