Saturday 12 miler chasing the moon and sunrise

COVID-19, “The Rona Era”

This is has been a low mileage run week. Monday strength training, Tuesday rest, Wednesday strength training, Thursday 3.50 miles and acupuncture, and Friday rest. With less than 30 days away from the marathon, I need to run more and heal more. Monday I have a PT appointment, hopefully this will help.

Anywho, Saturday. I knew 20 miles might be too much. My goal was 15 miles. Last Saturday I ran the Boston 10k for women, which was 6 miles and I ran 4 miles for a warm up. 11 miles total. I wanted to push myself with more miles today.

The morning pre warmup, I stretched , took 2 aleve and packed my running vest with water and gu. By 5:45a.m. I was at Revere beach. It was dark, warmish, and mostly empty. Which I loved. The moon was out and I could hear the waves of the water. I wanted to test out my legs.

I did some more stretching and then I started running. Oh, I had put on my knee compression sleves. Of course my left leg felt good and strong. My right, not so much. I ran along the beach. I wanted to be mindful of feeling the ache and pain of bending my knee and putting running pressure on it. Funny thing, after 2 miles the ache and pains of the right knee was less. I ran along the beach, crossed the bridge over to lynn and stayed focus to get to Nahant and the beach there.

I know I am a water baby because being by the water was relaxing. Taking in the salty air and seeing the sunrise over the horizon was just priceless but I was in pain. Several times along my running route I had to stop and walk and give my leg a break. But I was making progress.

To be honest I hate this. My upper body felt strong my left leg felt strong. What was holding me back was my right knee. For me it’s annoying to see the 13 mile pace that I am holding. If I was healthy, it might be 10.50 or 11 min mile. After seeing the sunrise and being on Nahant beach, I started to run back. Running back more walking/running happened. I knew I couldn’t do 20 or even 15. Just getting back to my car was the goal.

As the sun was slowly rising, more people, cars, and groups were walking on the lynnway and revere beach.

When I reached my car, I walked some more. I did not want my leg to cramp up.

12.01 miles, 13:07 ave pace; 2:37:32 miles. Looking at my laps, I can see that I was running mostly 12min/mile. Ugh. Goal is to run with right knee pain and finish this upcoming marathon.

20 miles was the goal, 15 is what happened
