2nd Saturday 10 miler
COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”
This is my third attempt at running 10 miles. The first time was over 2 hours. I was rusty. The second time, it was below freezing temps. I told my ass to the Y and the dreadmill. I was able to run 8 miles. Yeah me. Today , I was determine to get 10 miles in on the Boston Marathon course. I arrived at Heartbreak around 6:30a.m. Actually, it was fairly nice out- 38 degrees. I know the route which will end up at 10 miles.
When I started, it was nice and dark. I had my headlight and a fuel vest. That did take some time to get use to. Not even the first mile in, going up hill. My breathing was fast and I had to stop a couple of times. I might have been excited or nervous, not sure. I had to calm myself down. I could feel my heart beating out of my chest. By the time I reached BC and around the reservoir I finally calmed down a bit.
Then I had to go back up a hill. My body felt good but the fuel I needed to keep going was lacking. I kept going. I tried the run/walk/run/ walk method. I think that helped me to keep going at a good pace.
I expected to see a bunch of runners on the course this morning but I didn’t. Where was everybody at?
I kept going. It helped that I had water, so every 2-3 miles I took a sip.
It wasn’t until I was finished that I saw more folks running. I was done around 8ish. I’m happy that I finished in 1:51:32; 11:09 pace, and 10.01 miles. Making progress.
