Road to Wellness 5k training
COVID 19, “The Rona Era”
Finally I was able to make a Road to Wellness(RTW) free clinic training. For the last five years, I’ve always participated in the RTW summer training. The training gets everyone ready for the Road to Wellness 5k race in Roxbury in September. This race started off with a couple hundred people and before the pandemic, there were over a 1,000 people who ran or walked the 5k. I love this race because it is in the heart of Roxbury. The historic African-American community of Boston. This is an amazing community event. This event, there are so many African-american runners and walkers. Plus the negative stereotypes people have of Roxbury get dismissed because this is such a beautiful neighborhood .
It was good to see familiar and new faces. Like a family reunion. Of course the day that I came, it was hill work drills, lucky me. Because it was getting warm, they start at 8:45am. which is so late for me. I put myself in the joggers group. There were three groups: Runners, joggers, and walkers.
I ended up with a couple of other “ in betweens” more than joggers but wasn’t in the mode to be runners group.
I love the warm up with the coaches and learning about stretches and how to become stronger and better runners. Normally, the trainers might charge anywhere from $40-$120 for their expert services. That’s another reason I love to go. Hence, free training.
It was really good day.
