Back in the rainy Bean
COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”
Today is my first day of running back in Boston after being gone for two weeks. Two weeks ago, after doing five graduation ceremonies, the Iowan and I flew to Seattle to check off states #48 and #49. See State Highlights for details. We got back on Tuesday morning of this week. I did plan to run on Wednesday but it was pouring rain in the morning.
Today, Thursday, I thought I should run in familiar elevation and urban surroundings. It wasn’t raining this morning and I thought I would run along the Mystic River Reservation by Assembly Row. Summer is upon us because it was 68 degrees by 5:55 a.m. I was excited to wear shorts and run. I started off slow and steady around the Mystic. It was cool and I saw my stalkers all out and about which made me happy. I was surprised to see my normal Mystic path was blocked off because of construction.
That meant I had to recalculate and reverse where I was going to run. I didn’t have any set mileage in mind. My range was between a 5k and 10k. I turned around and ran towards the back of the orange line T. There is a loop that overlooks the Mystic and Casino in Everett. As I ran towards that, I saw a new open pathway. I guess when one pathway is closed, another is open. This was exciting. This path, which was cushion lead me to Everett and Charlestown. New path, new excitement. I could run to Bunker Hill Monument or I could run into downtown Boston, so many options. As I was running and thinking about my options, it started to drizzle, which wasn’t too bad. Then the drizzle turned into hard rain and then downpours.
I don’t run in the rain. I’m not trying to get sick. I made a u turn to go back to my car. My options of running on the new path have to be put on hold for today. As I was running back, I missed this kind of urban running and the lower elevation.
3.84 miles at a 11:04 mile pace. Still moving and grooving.
