Sunday 10k for the ladies
COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”
Today is the BAA 10k race. Many of my BGR-Boston sole sistas are running today. I didn’t sign up because I didn’t want to spend the money( thou we got a discount), run late sunday morning, and deal with the heat. Plus I have to work on writing this dang book.
Today I ran a 10k to support ladies and for ladies. I’m still in shock, anger, disgust, and fear for what the overturning of Roe v. Wade means. Talk about a weight on my spirit and what this means for our society, women, and health care and reproductive rights. I can’t even.
Today, my 10k, I wanted to run by statues and memorials dedicated to women. I ran by Harriet Tubman Park and the Boston Women’s Memorial. Then I swing by the Boston Commons, the start of the BAA 10K, and saw several of my BGR members. I needed some good energy and vibes. I started running at 6:10a.m. and it was already 75 degrees out. I knew I just needed to go slow and steady because the temperature was just going to rise.
It was good to run in the early morning calm of the city despite the temperatures. I realized it has been a long while since I ran in downtown Boston, so I was soaking it all in.
I must have been really motivated. I ran 6.16 miles at a 10:15pace for a 1h and 3 min. run.
Not bad.
I thought about my book and all the work that we will all have to do to fight for social justice. Glad I’m about to run off the emotions because they need to go somewhere.
