Proceeding with Caution for Track Tuesday
COVID-19, “The Rona Era”
I was up extra early because today is a teaching day and it is the first full week of classes. I knew I needed to get the track run in early before preparing for class. It was around 5:45 a.m. when I left, still dark of course. I had my headlight and pepper gel with me as I ran the dark neighborhood streets. Running to the track, I didn’t see a single solo. As I’m running, there was a caution tape and the gate to the track was closed. This was very odd. There is more than one way to get to the track. From the corner of my eye I saw a guy doing workout drills, in the dark without any kind of reflective gear on.
I ran to the other side of the stadium, which happen to be open to get on the track. I’m running my laps, listening to music, and enjoying the time when I saw two more men. They came onto the track and started to run up and the the stadium steps, again, no reflective gear. Later on, two more men run on the track and the same scenario. How privilege must to be to not worry about safety or being harmed and just run. Run in the dark and not need any accessories with you.
Later as it got lighter, I started to run back home. Then I saw women walking with their dogs out and one couple( male/female) walking together. Just things to make you say hmmm.
I did run 5 miles this morning, I was proud of what I did in the dark with caution.
