Sunday 10k
COVID-19, “The Rona Era”
Saturday was a rain out day. It was storming like crazy here which translated to being a rest day. Sunday, it was still windy but the sun was out for the MLK holiday weekend. I was determined today to run a 10k since I didn’t run a 10k last week. I ran along the Charles River Esplande. When I started it was slightly dark out on the Cambridge side of the river. There weren’t people around. I was masked up, headlight up, and laced up.
The view of Boston across the river never gets old. This is always a motivating factor to get me up, so I can see the transition of the sky. Oddly, as I saw some people, running, I was the only one with headlight on. The couple of people who ran passed me had no kind of light or reflective gear. As I kept on running I did see a runner/walker with their dog. The dog was the one with the reflective light, not the human, go figure.
When I crossed the river and ran on the Boston side, I saw my stalkers!!! The last time I saw them was the first of the year. Here they were. I was very pleased. I had a moment with them before I continued.
As light started to come, I did see a couple more folks running. I still don’t have a clue where they call came from but they were running along with me on the path.
I ran onto mass ave bridge to cross the river and get back to the Cambridge side. To my surprise, someone’s hair, weave, something was just hanging on the ground of the bridge, awkward. Running on Mass Ave toward Cambridge, I remembered an MLK graffiti art piece in Central Square. When I got there, the mural of MLK was painted over.
To my surprise, I did see other murals and forms of art that stressed the importance of Black Lives Matter. That made me happy. That was a tribute to the struggles of racism and the collective actions of others to change it. Change is hard, change is slow, eventually change does happen. I had an extra bit of empowerment and joy when I saw this.
