Everyone is moving this morning

COVID-19 “The Rona Era”

Why was I trying to run at 5 a.m on a Saturday. I have to remind myself that it is ok to rest and sleep in a bit. The struggle is a heat struggle. I knew if I waited longer, 6 a.m., 7 a.m to run it was going to be hot. But I was tired and wanted to sleep in. Clearly first world and runners problems. I just said screw it, slept and left at 6:30 a.m. To keep with my last of June summer theme I ran on Castle Island. When I left the house it was cool but I could feel the sun coming.

At Castle Island, everyone was taking in the daylight and the last Saturday of June. There were so many many people. Older, younger,…fishing, walking, talking, dog walking, running, sitting on the bench, doing group workouts, swimming in the water, this morning I saw it all before 8a.m.

I saw two black women walking and we exchanged hellos and good mornings. I saw a black male and black woman( who had on a Morehouse shirt) and we did a similar exchange.

Seeing other people that looked like you plus wearing a Black Girls Run hat, is a welcoming invitation for interaction and safety.

The range of diversity is different than what I experience yesterday at Franklin Park. Both places represent more diversity than I have seen in other places and other neighborhoods.

What started off my run with a smile is getting a phone call from my other BGR ambassador. She saw me drive past her while she was working. She said “ That Red BGR hate gave you away, I knew it was you.”.. It’s good to know that , that is my brand/label,

As I think about it, while running today two white female runners, acknowledge me when we ran passed each other. Would they have normally done that or did my hat let them know I was apart of the running community as well. Hmmmm Fuel for thought.

3.80 miles around the island to see all the people and know that summer is for real, here.
