COVID-19 ..The RONA Era
It’s going to rain today. I can feel it in my arthritic knees. Today is going to be a long run, I’m just not sure what a long run will mean today. To mix up the route I wanted to run in a new place, explore a new distance. I drove to Cambridge and parked across the Museum of Science. Today’s route included the cities of Cambridge, Charlestown, and Everett. I started running around 6:45 a.m. and there was no one out when I started. As i was running underneath the Zakim bridge there was a statue or a sculpture with Potato stacks to mark the millions of potatoes that were” off loaded into storage sheds along the sidings of the Boston and Maine Railroad.”
Aww, a history moment. I kept on running. I ran into beautiful flowers in the Charlestown Community Garden, still no people around. I continued and crossed over the Alford Street Bridge and the Mystic River I entered into Everett. In Everett I passed the closed casino and several signs that said Air Hugs. That made me smile and laugh. That is all I can do with my friends at the moment. I miss the real hugs.
I passed some cool murals on buildings, thanks to our first responders sign and another beautiful garden. At this point it was three miles. If I kept going I would have went to the city of Chelsea. I thought this would be a good time to turn back. 6.05 miles in not bad for a Sunday.
I did feel a bit tired because I didn’t hydrate or fuel well. This is still a win for me.
Also, today would have been state #47 the Eugene half marathon and marathon. The last couple of days I was able to feel the emotions of the disappointment of this race. It’s just a delay and not the end. Plus facebook keeps reminding me that I was in South Dakota this same time last year, state #41 which keeps putting another smile on my face.
As I turned around to head back to my car, I did see more people out running and walking, with and without mask. I saw the police guarding or protecting the entrance to the casino which was closed, I thought that was odd.
Today was a Sunday blessings of art, history, nature, gardens, and a closed casino.
