More than a 10k a.m. humpday
COVID-19, “The Rona Era”
So did not want to get out of bed this morning. I know I have to do it because tonight the Nor’easter cometh and there will no be running on Thursday. I was determine to get up, get out, and run a 10k because it is 10k a.m. humpday. I made sure to layer up before running in the 24 degree weather. This morning I stayed local and didn’t drive to run. The route I had in mind would be a 10k and take me from East Boston to Chelsea and Back to East Boston.
Being up so early, the only people I saw , were people who had to be at work early. The economic inequality is always present. In neighborhood, around 5:30 a.m. I see many Latinx folks going to work or being the ones who are working early. I also saw many construction workers sitting in their cars- reading, looking at their phones, talking to their buddies before leaving their car to start work.
Running into Chelsea, I normally would see Santa and his reindeer on top of the salt pile from Eastern Salt company this time of year. I didn’t see them. Talk about a disappointment. I turned the corner to run past Eastern Salt and what do I see? The Latinx-Afro Santa and the Reindeer. They were ready to go but not on top of the salt pile. Joy and Joy.
After chatting with Santa, I was on my way to finish my run. I took a detour and ran several times around the track because I didn’t run for Track Tuesday. When I made it home. Instead of a 10k I ran 7.35 miles. I owe it all to Santa.
