It's not about me
Sunday’s long run was not about me today. One of our #girlgang Black Girls Run member is training for her first marathon. This Sunday was her long run of 14 miles . I know what it’s like to train for a marathon and it helps to have motivational support. I told her I would run 7 miles with her in the morning. Then another member of our #girlgang joined too. She was going to do her 7 mile long run as well.
I found myself as the pacer and leading the pack. When I realized I was going to fast I slowed down. But I was told to keep my pace because that was motivation. I did, but a bit slower and I would check to make sure the ladies were behind me and they were ok.
The first three miles I was talking to them and giving the leads a head’s up about the route and the upcoming markers. We did the Charles River loop. Started off at MIT and crossed the bridge over to Storrow Drive, Charles Esplanade, …turn to the Museum of Science and back to MIT.
I felt good running the 7 miles. I was so proud of the ladies. They did awesome. I enjoyed not running alone and being able to support the ladies goals. As a community, they have been there and supported me as well.
