Soul Cycle Saturday
The Sun is always deceiving out here. You think it's going to be somewhat warm and it's not! Today I'm doing Soul Cycle with my Black Girls Run group. I love Soul Cycle. It's churching and clubbing all in one. Plus it's good training for runners. Since Soul Cycle is so experience, it's my once a month treat. I planned on two days( either Saturday or Sunday) that the ladies could choice to try this.
I thought I had some Saturday folks but it was just me because everyone signed up for Sunday. For several of the women, they couldn't do it because it conflicted with them going to church. And that was my reasoning as well.
Fuel for Thought: How does the intersection of religion and health come together for the Black women's experience with running?
Before Soul Cycle, I did a quick 1 mile run to get warmed up. Then I realized that I shouldn't run if I'm going to be on the bike for an hour. lol.
There are Soul Cycle studio's all over the experience parts of the city and suburbs. I picked the Seaport area, which is the " middle" for everyone. My instructor was Vic, and she was a black badass. We started riding with the song " All I want for my birthday is a big booty ho". How can you not love that.
On Sunday is having a themed cycle class " Beyonce vs. Mariah". Kick ass. I was happy to see her face and interact with her.
Fuel for Thought: What does it mean to be a black women and participate in " sports/activities" which aren't seen as tradition "black sports/activities". I've been to many soul cycle classes and I've only seen/ had the experience of two African-American female instructors.
Anyway, it was great and I look forward to seeing Vic soon
