4:30am = "men folk morning"

4:30am = "men folk morning"

This morning I wanted to see what the world would be like if I ran at 4:30am instead of 5:30am. And the world is so different. Ironically an hour earlier is a degree higher than yesterday.   75 degrees compared to yesterday's 74. :). It felt so much cooler.

Usually when I run around 5 its quiet but people are moving and going to work...walking to the T station, catching a bus....etc... at 4:30 it is extremely quiet. Quiet without people or transportation sounds. But it was "loud" hearing the animals sounds and a lot of it. Domestic and nocturnal animals making all kinds of noise in yards, bushes, trees. It wasn't just the sounds...but smells too.  I longed for my usual 5:30 am smells of cologne, baked bread,  and sometimes mary jane.

Apparently 4:30 am is the "Man's running/walking" time. I can't recall every seeing so many men...older menrunning in the morning. Usually I might come across one or two around my 5:30am time. Not as many as I saw this morning. Besides a group of 3 women walking...it was me and the "men folk" out.

I counted 7 men that were running/walking on my running route this am. Perhaps I was running on " their" running route. A couple of the men gave me the morning running/walking acknowledgement hi. Others were not even trying to look my way.  I was in the man's space.
 My bad. LOL

Women now make up the largest percentage of runners for races( 5k, 10k, halfs). The 13th largest race in 2015 was the Nike Women's Half Marathon San Francisco. First women   to run the Boston Marathon wasn't until 1966 (Roberta Gibb). I could go on. We have come a long way. Just pedaling a long and hitting that pavement . :)
