Mob Mile

Mob Mile

COVID-19, “The Rona Era”

Thursday Night was Mob Mile night! There were 8 heats. Slower heats go first. I was in Heat 1! The sooner we go the better. 4 times around MIT’s track and the mile is done. This mob mile fun fest starts at 7pm. Not a.m. but p.m. We know I don’t run after 6a.m. Challenge number 1. Challenge number 2: weather. It was rainy , cold, and it got muggy. Lots of mixed weather conditions. But here I was. I signed up and paid my money, so I had to run it.

The Iowan came with me, which was nice. And there was a sea of familiar faces from Traiblazhers, Heartbreakers, Pioneers, and other people that I have seen and run races with.

I loved being in Heat #1. Besides us being fun, I know most of the people in the group. It was just cool. I will admit there is something about running on a track, having a crowd, hearing cheers and your name being called. Plus being under the lights oh and let’s not forget the rain to add a sprinkle for dramatic effect.

I finished my mile in 8:43. Which never happens. I know I could not do that for 12.1 more miles. Around 9:30/10 is a comfortable pace for me.

Someone asked if I was going to PR tonight. My response: Running at 7pm is a PR for me.

Anyway it was a fun night and I’m glad I went.
